Have you ever thought of yourself as this bowl? Or maybe a living room side table with a broken leg, or a shattered mirror? Worthless and damaged, you say.
The simple truth is that all people have a special meaning in God's heart. He doesn't toss us aside because we aren't what we once were. He can use a chipped bowl. It may not be as it was when it came out of the box, but it still holds things and can be useful, even through its flaw. He can use a table with a broken leg. It can be repaired to uphold the most precious of your family portraits. And like that broken mirror, He can take every shard of your life and put it back together. Will there be noticeable damage? Maybe. But sometimes it's in our scars that we find our worth. He could have tossed us all aside and decided we weren't worth His life. I am completely humbled that he knows the depths of my heart - my unclean heart, my damaged heart, my disobeying heart, my selfish heart - and he loves me just the same.
I found a new song that I've fallen in love with. I'm listening to it as I type this and as I switched over to the screen to see the video with the lyrics, this is what I saw:
Grace greater than our past.
Deeper than our pain.
Stronger than our sin.
Your love, forever it will last,
Your blood will always save,
Grace will always win.
Grace that saves my soul.
Grace that won't let go.
I haven't gotten rid of that bowl. It still holds food, still holds up through dishwasher cycle after dishwasher cycle. Through microwave heat and ice cream chills, it still serves its purpose. There may be a chip in it, but it's doing its job and is still useful to me. Just like you are to God, no matter what you've been through.
I'm humbled that he can still use this broken girl. He paid for me with His life's blood and he's not tossing me away for any reason. To Him we are not worthless and damaged, but priceless and loved.
